  • Who and how will this area be supervised and kept clean of rubbish and most of all graffiti. How can we residents along Hunter St be assured that this space will not cause drinkers to use it leaving broken bottles around causing safety issues for children. I notice that the skate park near the swimming pool is always covered in graffiti and rubbish.

    Good morning,

Thank you for your patience while I follow this up for you.

A maintenance regime will be developed in conjunction with detailed design, this process occurs further down the track.  As a guide, some skate facilities are inspected on a daily basis for graffiti and park inspections generally occur several times per week.  Council employs three crew to remove graffiti on Council buildings and infrastructure such as parks .  Maintenance staff attend to all these issues. Further information can be accessed by visiting: http://www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au/Living/Residents/Report-Local-Issues/Graffiti-vandalism/Graffiti-Management

Lighting will not be installed at the Active Hub as evening use is not encouraged. We anticipate high-level usage of the playground, resulting in passive day time surveillance by park users which should discourage littering and anti-social behaviour.

The area around the proposed Active Hub has been earmarked for future installation of new recycling and general waste bins as part of Council's public place recycling program. The bin enclosures will feature anti-litter messages that encourage residents and visitors to dispose of their waste correctly.

    Many thanks, Ashlee

  • Is there any planning for additional parking ?

    Peter asked 26 days ago

    Good morning,

Thank you for your patience while I follow this up for you.

The FAQs (http://www.newcastleyoursay.com.au/south-stockton-hub/faqs#25462)  note that parking improvements will occur in line with the South Stockton Public Domain Plan, which suggested provision of angle parking along Hunter Street. Parking has been considered but not in the scope of works for the development for the South Stockton Active Hub.

    Many thanks, Ashlee

  • Why cant the coffee van stay?

Kim Maree asked 28 days ago

    Good morning,

Thank you for your patience while I follow this up for you.

I have spoken to the appropriate Council department and they have let me know that Council's current policy allows for food vans and trucks to operate on Council roads subject to approval and compliance with the criteria specified in the Mobile Food Vending Vehicles Policy.

For more information about the conditions under which mobile food vending machines can operate, please visit:  http://www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au/Business/Regulations/Food-drink-business/MOBILE-FOOD-VENDING-TRIAL.

    Many thanks, Ashlee

  • Hi Do you have the important site plan please

    petermreynoldson@hotmail.com asked 26 days ago

    Hi there,

Thanks for your question. By site plan do you mean the draft concept plan and draft skate plaza concept plan? These can be accessed here http://www.newcastleyoursay.com.au/south-stockton-hub on the right hand side of the page under Document Library or accessed below.

If this is not what you mean by site plan please let me know more information.

    Many thanks, Ashlee

  • Are you going to provide extra parking which should be position near this playground ? Are you going to up grade existing car park that has a lot of wasted space ? Are you going to stop people parking there up to 10 hrs working days & weekends The centre piece of the existing car park is neglected so will you remove that to improve parking spaces? Are you aware that the western side of the car park cant be extended west as the land is off limits due to an agreement between maritime services & council.

Thanks for your question. Parking improvements will occur in line with the South Stockton Public Domain Plan, which suggested provision of angle parking along Hunter Street. The issue of the current carpark is a separate issue and will be referred to the relevant Council officer to respond. Thanks, Ashlee

  • Why is there no half pipe in the skateboard zone?

    JA asked 9 days ago

    Hi there,

Thanks for your question. The intent is for a new type of skate experience being an urban style plaza.  Council's Skate Technical Reference group identified the need for an alternate style skate park in the Newcastle region, and considered that an urban style plaza would be the first of its kind in the region. It is envisioned it will attract skaters from the region, along with state and national skaters, given its proximity to Newcastle CBD. Thanks, Ashlee

  • Is there only one BBQ and one covered seating area available? If so is this enough to cope with the number of visitors?

    JA asked 9 days ago

Thanks for your question regarding the BBQ facilities. The number of BBQs and seating has not yet been determined and will be looked into in more detail at detailed design stage of the project.  Many thanks, Ashlee

  • The kids will love it
